Jennifer A. Beckman is a partner at Beckman Steen & Lungstrom, P.A. Ms. Beckman has practiced in the family and probate areas of law since 1987. Jennifer initially trained to become a marriage and family therapist, however her passion for assisting families led her to law school. Her family law practice involves a variety of family law matters including simple divorces, custody/parenting time issues, complex financial and business issues, child and spousal support, paternity matters and post-decree issues.

Ms. Beckman involves her clients in resolving their issues whether through mediation, collaborative practice, negotiation, or litigation. If necessary, Ms. Beckman is an experienced litigation attorney who is comfortable in the courtroom.

super lawyerJennifer is actively involved in the community, she volunteers at Perpectives (part of Tubman/Chrysalis) and Volunteer Lawyers Network through Hennepin County. She is a volunteer Guardian ad Litem for Incompetent Adults through Hennepin County. Jennifer is a sponsor and speaker for Rediscoverying U in relevant topics in the family law area. Jennifer is a closet writer and enjoys being part of a writers group, Women of Words (“WOW”).

Jennifer also assist clients who want to amicably and creatively resolve their divorce through the Collaborative Practice process and stay out of the court system. Through her Collaborative Practice training at the Collaborative Law Institute she is highly qualified to represent clients through family law issues outside of the courtroom setting. Jennifer is part of the team at the Collaborate Divorce Professionals who recognize that many couples would rather be able to take responsibility for shaping their own divorce settlement rather then having a judge determine the fate of their family. Jennifer is also an attorney through DRI Alliance for Marriage and Divorce Professionals assisting clients who may not be ready for divorce explore their options before commencing a divorce proceeding.

The story of Lemon and Oscar

Lemon and Oscar joined Beckman Steen & Lungstrom, P.A. in 2020. Jennifer Beckman had just lost her beloved dog, Pudding, and found a “teddy bear” dog (shih tzu/ bichon mix) on a rescue site.

Jennifer, and her two daughters, drove 4 hours to Wisconsin to adopt Lemon. When she arrived there was a little black dog, Lemon’s brother, who no one had chosen to adopt yet.

Lemon and the little black dog were the only puppies still at this rescue. Jennifer reached out to her business partner, Tera Lungstrom, about this little black dog and Tera said to bring him home because we could not leave him. Tera then adopted Oscar. The puppies were 4 months old when they were rescued.

Since it was Covid, the pups could not go to puppy classes or socialize so Jennifer and Tera started bringing them into the office. They are a very bonded brother and sister who love coming to the office to see each other and everyone at the office. You may find yourself meeting them if you come into the office.
